WordPress website: pros, cons and price

WordPress is an open-source content management system. There is no licence fee or monthly platform fee, the website belongs to you, and you can edit the content yourself later. At our studio a company website on WordPress costs €600 + VAT on average.

That is why a growing company does not need a new website from scratch: the missing part is added to the existing WordPress site.

1. You edit it yourself. Texts, images, news and prices are changed in the admin panel, without a developer.

2. It grows with your company. New pages, languages, booking or a store are added to the same website.

3. No lock-in to one developer. WordPress is widely used, so another team can continue developing the site.

4. Many ready-made solutions. Forms, languages, payments and delivery exist as plugins and do not have to be programmed from scratch.

1. It needs updating. WordPress, the theme and plugins must be updated, otherwise security holes appear.

2. Too many plugins slow the site down. Each add-on should be chosen deliberately, not installed just because it is there.

3. A ready-made theme is not yet a finished website. The theme has to be set up, filled with content and checked on a phone.

The first downside is covered by website maintenance: updates, security, backups and small changes for €75 per month + VAT.

You can install WordPress and build the website yourself. That works if you have time to learn and your needs are simple. Keep in mind that hosting, theme setup, the mobile version, speed, backups and updates are then yours to handle.

Is WordPress free?

The WordPress software is free. You pay for building the website, the domain and hosting.

Is a WordPress website secure?

Yes, if it is kept updated and backed up. An outdated WordPress is a risk.

Can an existing website be moved to WordPress?

The content can usually be transferred. How exactly, we look at during the consultation based on your current site.

Can an online store be added later?

Yes. WooCommerce is a WordPress extension and the store is added to the same website.
